Bispecific antibodies
Bispecific antibodies are laboratory-made proteins with two "arms": one binds a protein on cancer cells, the other binds the CD3 protein on T cells, physically bringing the two together so the T cell can kill the cancer cell. The first of them, blinatumomab (CD19×CD3), is used in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia; newer ones, such as teclistamab (BCMA×CD3) in multiple myeloma, are approved for blood cancers that have returned after several lines of treatment. Unlike CAR-T they are off-the-shelf drugs given in repeated doses, but they too can cause cytokine release syndrome.
