[Articles] Effects of ovarian ablation or suppression on breast cancer recurrence and survival: patient-level meta-analysis of 15 000 women in 23 randomised trials
A landmark patient-level meta-analysis published in The Lancet, encompassing 15,000 premenopausal women across 23 randomised trials, has demonstrated that ovarian function suppression (OFS) significantly reduces the 15-year risk of breast cancer recurrence and death in ER-positive early breast cancer. The benefit persisted even in women already receiving chemotherapy or tamoxifen, strengthening the evidence base for adding OFS to standard adjuvant treatment. These findings are expected to reinforce international guideline recommendations for incorporating ovarian suppression into the management of premenopausal hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. The scale and duration of follow-up make this one of the most definitive analyses on the topic to date.
