Breast cancer: Life extending drug is now available on NHS in England

England's NHS will now fund trastuzumab deruxtecan (Enhertu, Daiichi Sankyo/AstraZeneca) for approximately 1,000 women with HER2-low advanced or metastatic breast cancer that has progressed after prior treatment, following an updated NICE recommendation. The decision came after successful cost negotiations linked to changes in NHS value-for-money rules introduced as part of the UK–US drug pricing deal. HER2-low is a recently recognized breast cancer subgroup — previously classified as HER2-negative — in which cancer cells express low levels of HER2 protein, and clinical trials have demonstrated a survival benefit with this antibody-drug conjugate in that population.
