Expansion and CAR engineering of granulocyte-monocyte progenitors for cellular immunotherapy

Researchers established granulocyte-monocyte progenitors (GMPs) as a renewable, expandable upstream platform for generating engineered myeloid effector cells capable of direct tumor killing. The study introduces a novel CAR-Fc construct that simultaneously targets tumor cells and activates host antigen-presenting cells, bridging innate and adaptive immunity. Published in Cell, the work provides preclinical proof-of-concept for a myeloid-based cellular immunotherapy that could complement existing CAR-T approaches, particularly in solid tumors where T-cell therapies have shown limited efficacy.
